Haywood Spay/Neuter needs YOU and needs you now! Our small band of volunteers is overstretched. An hour or two a month can make a big difference in having healthier and happier dogs and cats in Haywood County.
We need Volunteers for the following:
- Haywood Spay/Neuter's bi-weekly spay/neuter transports
- Help us from 7:30 am to 9:00 am every other Wednesday when animals are dropped off for the spay/neuter transport and/or from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm every other Thursday when the animals return.
- Crate Cleaning
- Not a glamorous job, but a very important part of our spay/neuter service. Many of our clients do not own crates so we rent them out. All crates are cleaned before re-use. Crates can be loaded in a truck and taken to the car wash for easy cleaning and Haywood Spay/Neuter will reimburse the cost.
- Food Program
- Invest an hour or two a week bagging pet food for delivery to the food pantries to help keep animals fed. Or, you can pick up the donated pet food once a week and drop it off at the Haywood Spay/Neuter office.
- Haywood Spay/Neuter Office
- Does a desk suit you better? Devote two to three hours a week in our office to keep the whole spay/neuter process going. We need volunteers to help answer the phone and tell the public about Haywood Spay/Neuter's programs and events, process clients, and stuff envelopes for mailings.
- Haywood Spay/Neuter Board
- Our board meetings are scheduled every other month and you may be able to provide a special skill to help us move projects along. Our current board has a variety of backgrounds and skills and each member is crucial to helping the Haywood Spay/Neuter mission. But, we are stretched thin and would like to increase our numbers.
- Website and Newsletter
- Are you computer savvy and website literate? Or, are you a talented writer? Haywood Spay/Neuter needs help to improve its website and marketing presence to the residents of Haywood County. We are interested in your creative marketing and website ideas and are always open to ideas and stories for our newsletter.
- TNR
- TNR stands for Trap-Neuter-Return and is gaining wide respect in the US as the standard for
humanely managing and reducing feral cat populations that are prevalent in certain areas of our community. TNR volunteers not
only help trap feral cats and get them neutered, but they also provide follow-up and support to the colony caregiver. Click here to learn more
about helping with our TNR efforts!
- Special events, festivals and fundraising events
- - Here is your chance to help Haywood Spay/Neuter with just a minimal time commitment. Throughout the year, Haywood Spay/Neuter needs help at special events. We host microchip clinica, have an annual HART theatre event, are present at our community festivals and attend the County rabies clinics where we hand out information about Haywood Spay/Neuter to our target audience. We welcome your help in any way at these events. We always need assistance with venue set-up and take down, people to staff the booth at events or help for at least 4 hours at our microchip clinincs.
- Crafting
- Do you enjoy making handcrafted products and would you like to donate your wares for Haywood Spay/Neuter to sell at one of our local community festivals? Haywood Spay/Neuter has found handcrafted items a hit with the public and an additional way to spread the word about our mission while raising money for our cause.
- Grant writing
- If you have a passion for helping animals and a background in this area, we would love to have you assist us in applying for grants.
If you've considered being a volunteer in the past, now is the time to act.
Call Penny Wallace in the Haywood Spay/Neuter office to discuss where you might best fit into the organization. Office hours are Monday - Thursday from Noon to 5:00 pm. Phone number is 452-1329. There is a place for you in Haywood Spay/Neuter!
WE NEED YOU to spread the word about the importance of spaying and neutering pets. Be like Bob Barker and take any and all opportunities to tell your friends, co-workers (even strangers) that spaying and neutering saves lives.
And, please spread the word that Haywood Spay/Neuter is Haywood County's low-cost provider of spay/neuter services.
