NEW REQUIREMENTS, NEW PROCEDURES, SAME GREAT SERVICE

Most people in the county are aware that to provide the low and no-cost spay/neuter services Haywood Spay/Neuter has to raise money to pay the difference between what we pay an average of $56.71 per pet and the amounts we charge. Our regular price for surgery is $30, we often run specials such as the $10 Special last fall and for owners who receive public assistance we provide the surgery for free.

Raising funds often comes with requirements and this year the NC State Spay/Neuter fund requires that counties and agencies such as ours that provide spay/neuter services to low-income pet owners obtain and keep copies of their clients’ proofs of income.

Haywood Spay/Neuter does not discriminate as to who can take advantage of our low-price and will not do so in the future but whether you are rich as Croesus or poor as a church-mouse we will be asking our clients to bring us a copy of a proof of income. A copy of your recent pay stub, last year’s 1040 page 1, or a copy of your Social Security award letter will be fine for those who are not receiving public assistance. If you are on public assistance, a copy of your food stamp card, Medicaid card, SSI, SSD documentation will be needed. We will also ask to see a valid government issued I.D.

It goes without saying but must be said, we will keep our clients’ information confidential. For that matter we keep our donor information confidential as well. We must raise funds to accomplish our mission and therefore must meet the requirements of the donors and agencies that provide the funds. I hope that our clients will understand and continue using Haywood Spay/Neuter’s services.

CAN I STILL SAVE MONEY USING A LOCAL VET?

Yes, but it is more expensive than our regular $38.50 surgery fee. Some local vets honor our low-cost vouchers too. If you wish to purchase a voucher and take your pet to your vet, contact your vet first to determine if the practice will honor the voucher and how much over the voucher you will be charged.

We only offer surgery & rabies vaccination on vet vouchers. Other services and vaccinations can be purchased if your pet is enrolled for surgery on our regular transports.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPAY/NEUTER DAY:
  • All pets must be in a plastic pet carrier for transport. If you do not have a carrier we will rent one to you for $5.
  • Your pet should be given no food after midnight the night before. They can have water until you bring them to us.
  • Drop your pet(s) off at 8:00 am (Wednesday) at the brown shed located at Charles and Boundary Streets — directly across from Haywood Builders Supply.
  • Pickup your pet at 12:30 p.m. the following day (Thursday) at the same location.
Don’t worry if you can’t make our transport schedule. We know that not everyone can make enough schedule adjustments to meet our regular transport schedule. If this is the case for you, you can purchase the low cost vouchers from us and make your own appointment for your pet’s surgery with the Humane Alliance clinic. The surgery must be done within 30 days of the date the vouchers are signed.
