The HAWA Mission Statement: Serving the community by providing low-cost spay/neuter services The Challenge: In 2009 Haywood County Animal Control had to euthanize over 1,745 unwanted pets. As pets continue to litter, the tragic number of euthanasia deaths go up. What happened? Did you know that two breeding dogs and their offspring can produce over 67,000 puppies in only 5 years? Two Breeding Cats produce at least two litters of four to six kittens every year for their lifetime. Surviving kittens mate as young as four months. Who will care for them and all their future litters? There simply are not enough homes, barns, or no-kill shelters available today for Haywood County's growing pet numbers. Where will these puppies and kittens live? Our goal at HAWA is to reduce the number of dogs cats, puppies and kittens being euthanized each month through education, encouraging our community to spay/neuter their pets and by offering Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinics The next spay/neuter clinic date is posted at the top of your screen.
