The HAWA Mission Statement:  Haywood Animal Welfare Association strives to reduce pet overpopulation by providing low-cost/no-cost spay and neuter services for cats and dogs of Haywood County and through public education.  In doing so we hope to promote a community in which animals are valued, properly cared for and have a safe place to live.

The Challenge:  Last year Haywood County Animal Control had to euthanize over 2,400 animals.  Did you know that 10 puppies and kittens are born for each newborn human?  There simply are not enough good homes for the dogs and cats we now have.  If people continue to let their pets to unaltered, just two breeding cats and their offspring will produce over 420,715 cats in the next seven years!

HAWA needs volunteers to "Help Us Help Them"! There are lots of opportunities to help at our office, at events, and much more. Click here for more information! If you are interested in working with shelter pets, fostering adoptable pets until they find a permanent home or helping to transport pets to Breed Rescue, please check out our sister organization Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation for more volunteer opportunities!
